LIBERTARIANS NOMINATE GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE
STAFFORD, TEXAS - June 14, 2010 - Kathie Glass, a Houston attorney, has won the Libertarian Party nomination for Governor of Texas. She will face incumbent Governor Rick Perry and former Houston mayor Bill White in November.
"This is our time. We will leave this convention as a united party," said Glass. "Texans want smaller government and more freedom. This is the message that we bring."
"Regrettably, our current governor seems intent on running our state "Washington D.C." style instead of Texas style. Runaway taxes, exploding spending, escalating debt, ever-growing government, and confiscation of property so he can give it to foreign interests -- where will it end?" asked Glass.
Glass said she will reach out to voters who supported Medina, a conservative activist from Wharton who ran an “insurgent campaign” in this Republican gubernatorial primary.
“Our delegates chose Kathie Glass due to her loyalty to the people of the State of Texas, her knowledge of the issues and her ability to articulate our positions to every audience,” said Carlos Cain, the Chair of the Fort Bend County Libertarian Party. “She will represent our party and the interests of the people of our state instead of ‘special interests’ currently controlling our public agenda.”
Libertarians met this weekend at their state convention in Austin to nominate statewide candidates, elect party leadership, and adopt their rules and platform. Other Libertarian Party candidates appearing on the November ballot in Fort Bend County include Derek Grayson – State Rep District 27 and Joey Roland - State Rep District 26.
