Vocal FBISD Bond Critics Hit In Bank Scam They Say Was Meant To Send A Message

by Bob Dunn, Nov 01, 2007, 02 20 PM

Kevin Tunstall and Noel Pinnock both live in Missouri City, both ran unsuccessfully for public office in the last election, and both have been vocal opponents of Fort Bend Independent School District’s proposed $428 million bond referendum.

Now, Tunstall and Pinnock have something else in common. Within the past week, they say, someone in Austin found a way to make fraudulent withdrawals from both men’s bank accounts.

Candidates running for the District C council seat said their desire to
obligate the city to repair sidewalks in front of residents' homes propelled
them to run for office.

Incumbent Bob Burton did run for re-election.

Barbara Gibson, 61, president of the Lakes of Brightwater subdivision
homeowners association, and Kevin Tunstall, 42, a health-care administrator
who lives in Quail Valley, want to change municipal law to require the city
instead of homeowners to repair damaged sidewalks.

The issue, which began in the First Colony neighborhood, triggered residents'
protest against the law and prompted city officials to form a study group, which
has recommended that the city be responsible for repairs.

Kevin Tunstall Announces Run For Missouri City Council District C

“When the issue of the city displacing it’s liability onto the residents of our community was brought up (municipal code 46-4), we were told that the issue would be studied and a report would be forthcoming,” Tunstall said. “How convenient for the council to postpone making a decision on the issue until after the filing deadline for candidates to be placed on the ballot. One need only view recent deliberations to witness the contempt exhibited by some members of the council towards members of our community. One member even questioned why someone who lived on my street should be concerned with the issue at all.”
